The TB rate is generally higher for Honolulu than for
the other counties, except in 2009 when Kaua'i and Maui both surpassed Honolulu. In 2009, Honolulu
reported 85 cases of TB (9 cases per 100,000 population)
accounting for 71 percent of the state's TB morbidity.
Kaua'i reported 10 cases of TB (15.5 cases per 100,000 population). Maui reported 16 cases of TB (11 cases per 100,000 population). Although the TB rates has declined since 1992, the TB incidence
rate for all Hawaii counties is well above the Health
People 2010 Objective of one case per 100,000 population
and above the national TB rate of 4.8 per 100,000.1
