Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in Hawai'i. Breast cancer rates in Hawai'i have generally been lower than those for the nation. However, Hawai'i's breast cancer rates increased by 65 percent between 1980 to 2005. Females in Hawai'i had lower rates of lung cancer compared to U.S. females as a whole. Hawai'i's rate among females increased by 55 percent between 1980 and 2005; U.S. increased 62 percent during the same time period. The rates for colon cancer for females in Hawai'i are equivalent to U.S. rates.
