| Hawai'i ranks 6th in the nation
in dentists per capita.1 This ranking is largely driven
by the high concentration of dentists on O'ahu, with 87
per 100,000 population, which is well above the national
rate of 64. However, Hawai'i's rural counties experience
a shortage of dentists with about 57 dentists per 100,000.
Hawai'i, Kaua'i, and Maui Counties are each designated
Dental Health Professional Shortage Areas by the Health
Resource and Service Administration (HRSA). |
