While young women between 20 and 29 years have the highest
birth rates over time in both Hawai'i and across the nation,
birth rates for these ages have either dropped or remained
stable since 1980. For Hawai'i and the nation, the greatest
increase in birth rates since 1980 has been among women aged 30 and older, with mothers
aged 40 and older having the largest increase.
The greatest decrease in birth rates have been among
teenagers between 15 and 19, followed by mothers aged
20-24.
